What to see and do around A Limunera
A Limunera is in Naso, bordering Castell’Umberto, on the Tyrrhenian coast of the province of Messina. It’s a location that lets you combine sea and mountains in the same holiday. Here are some ideas to fill your days, all reachable by car from the villa.
The sea
A few kilometres from Naso is Capo d’Orlando, one of the most popular seaside towns on this stretch of coast. Here you’ll find beach clubs and free public beaches, a seafront promenade for an evening stroll and lovely views of the Aeolian Islands on clear days. One of the best-known beaches is San Gregorio, which is also suitable for families with children thanks to its gently sloping shore.
It’s also worth going up to the sanctuary of Capo d’Orlando, at the top of the headland, for the view over the gulf, and stopping by the lighthouse, one of the symbols of the town.
The Aeolian Islands
From the area you can take boat trips to the Aeolian Islands. The main connections leave from the port of Milazzo.
Mountains and nature: the Nebrodi
Behind the coast lies the Nebrodi Park, the largest protected area in Sicily, with woods, lakes and trails ideal for hiking. It’s a great alternative on days when the sea isn’t tempting, or for anyone who wants to walk in the fresh air. The small villages of the Nebrodi are also well worth a visit.
Villages and culture
- Naso, the town where the villa is located, with its panoramic square overlooking the valley and its Mother Church.
- Tindari, with its sanctuary overlooking the headland and the Marinello salt lakes.
- Santo Stefano di Camastra, famous for its handmade ceramics and its museum.
Local flavours
The Nebrodi are known for their typical cheeses and cured meats, including the provola dei Nebrodi, and there is no shortage of restaurants and agriturismi nearby where you can taste local produce. At the villa, with the fully equipped kitchen and the barbecue grill, you can also cook what you find at the local markets.
